Lions Mane Mushroom Steak

When it comes to vegetarian or vegan cooking, finding a substitute for meat can be a challenge. However, I recently discovered an amazing alternative that has become one of my favorite dishes: Lion’s Mane Mushroom Steak.

What is Lion’s Mane Mushroom?

Lion’s Mane Mushroom, also known as Hericium erinaceus, is a unique-looking fungus with cascading spines that resemble a lion’s mane. This edible mushroom has a subtly sweet flavor and a meaty texture, making it an excellent substitute for steak in vegetarian and vegan dishes.


To prepare Lion’s Mane Mushroom Steak, I start by cleaning the mushroom and removing any debris. Then, I slice it into thick steak-like pieces, around 1-inch in thickness. I marinate the mushroom steaks in a mixture of olive oil, balsamic vinegar, garlic, and my favorite herbs and spices for about 30 minutes to let the flavors infuse.


Once marinated, I grill the mushroom steaks on a preheated grill or sear them in a hot pan for around 3-4 minutes on each side. This gives the mushroom steaks a beautiful char and enhances the flavor. The result is a tender, juicy, and flavorful “steak” that is a delight for the taste buds.
