Matar Mushroom Recipe

Today, I want to share with you one of my all-time favorite recipes: matar mushroom. This hearty and flavorful dish combines the earthy richness of mushrooms with the delicate sweetness of green peas, creating a perfect harmony of flavors. It’s a go-to recipe for me when I want to whip up something comforting and delicious. Let’s dive into the recipe!

Here’s what you’ll need to make this delectable matar mushroom dish:

  • Mushrooms – 250g, cleaned and sliced
  • Green peas – 1 cup (fresh or frozen)
  • Onion – 1 large, finely chopped
  • Tomato – 2 medium, finely chopped
  • Ginger-garlic paste – 1 tablespoon
  • Green chili – 1, finely chopped
  • Coriander powder – 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin powder – 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Red chili powder – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Garam masala – 1 teaspoon
  • Vegetable oil – 2-3 tablespoons
  • Fresh coriander leaves – for garnish
  • Salt – to taste

  1. Heat oil in a pan and add chopped onions. Sauté until the onions turn golden brown.
  2. Add ginger-garlic paste and green chilies. Cook for a few minutes until the raw aroma disappears.
  3. Toss in the chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn mushy.
  4. Now, add all the spice powders – coriander, cumin, turmeric, red chili, and garam masala. Mix well and cook for a couple of minutes.
  5. Add the sliced mushrooms and green peas. Stir to coat the vegetables with the masala.
  6. Cover the pan and let the mushrooms and peas cook for about 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Once the vegetables are soft and cooked through, adjust the seasoning with salt.
  8. Garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves.
  9. Enjoy the matar mushroom hot with steamed rice or roti!

Personal Touch:

I love to add a squeeze of fresh lemon juice right before serving. It adds a zesty and refreshing kick to the dish. Additionally, I sometimes sprinkle a pinch of chaat masala on top for an extra burst of flavor. These little touches elevate the dish and make it truly irresistible.

Matar mushroom is a dish that never fails to impress. Its aromatic blend of spices and the heartiness of mushrooms and green peas make it a comforting delight for any meal. I hope you give this recipe a try and fall in love with it, just like I have. Happy cooking!
