Mushroom Tartlets

I absolutely love making mushroom tartlets, and they’re always a hit whenever I serve them. These savory little pastries are perfect for parties, brunches, or even as a light dinner with a side salad. The flaky crust combined with the rich and earthy flavor of mushrooms makes for a delightful treat that’s sure to impress your guests.

Choosing the Right Mushrooms

When it comes to making mushroom tartlets, selecting the right mushrooms is crucial. I prefer using a combination of cremini, shiitake, and oyster mushrooms for a variety of textures and flavors. These mushrooms provide a wonderful depth of flavor and a beautiful mix of colors that make the tartlets visually appealing as well.

Preparing the Filling

To prepare the filling, I start by sautéing the mushrooms with some finely chopped shallots and garlic in a bit of butter and olive oil. This helps to bring out the natural flavors of the mushrooms and creates a savory base for the tartlets. I also like to add a splash of white wine and a sprinkle of fresh thyme to elevate the flavors even further.

Creating the Tartlet Shells

For the tartlet shells, I use store-bought puff pastry to save time, but you can certainly make your own if you prefer. I cut the pastry into small circles and gently press them into a mini muffin tin to create the perfect little shells for the mushroom filling. The puff pastry bakes up beautifully golden and flaky, providing a wonderful contrast to the tender mushrooms.

Baking and Serving

Once the tartlet shells are pre-baked, I fill them with the sautéed mushroom mixture and a sprinkle of grated gruyere cheese. Then, I pop them back in the oven for a few minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly. I love serving these tartlets hot out of the oven, garnished with a fresh sprig of thyme for a touch of elegance.

Mushroom tartlets are undoubtedly one of my favorite savory treats to make and savor. The combination of earthy mushrooms, flaky pastry, and aromatic herbs never fails to impress. Whether you’re hosting a gathering or simply craving a delicious homemade snack, mushroom tartlets are bound to be a crowd-pleaser. Give them a try and watch them disappear in no time!
