Recipe Of Masala Mushroom

Masala Mushroom is one of my all-time favorite dishes to cook. The rich blend of spices, combined with the earthy flavor of mushrooms, creates a mouthwatering dish that is sure to impress. Here is my take on this classic recipe, packed with flavor and warmth.


  • 500g fresh mushrooms, washed and sliced
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 3 tomatoes, pureed
  • 2-3 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 tablespoon coriander powder
  • 1 tablespoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • Fresh coriander leaves, for garnish
  • Salt to taste
  • 2-3 tablespoons cooking oil


  1. Heat the cooking oil in a pan and add the cumin seeds.
  2. Once the cumin seeds crackle, add the finely chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  3. Add the ginger-garlic paste and chopped green chilies, and cook for a few minutes until the raw aroma disappears.
  4. Now, add the turmeric powder, coriander powder, and red chili powder. Mix well and cook for a couple of minutes.
  5. Pour in the pureed tomatoes and cook until the oil separates from the masala.
  6. Add the sliced mushrooms and mix gently to coat them with the masala.
  7. Cover and cook for about 8-10 minutes on low heat, stirring occasionally.
  8. Once the mushrooms are tender, sprinkle garam masala and salt. Mix well and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  9. Garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves.

My Tips:

I love to serve this masala mushroom with hot chapatis or steamed rice. The flavors really come alive when accompanied by a dollop of creamy yogurt. Additionally, for an extra kick, I sometimes add a pinch of kasuri methi (dried fenugreek leaves) at the end of cooking.
